Temporary home for Taal ‘pulo’ evacuees

Batangueños displaced from Taal Volcano Island can have a place they can call home, even for a while.

Some residents, mostly from Barangay Pulang Bato and Alas-as in San Nicolas, have availed of a temporary relocation site in a government housing project in Ibaan town, Batangas.

Previously intended for uniformed personnel, the housing project aims to accommodate some of the residents evacuated from the "pulo" after the phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano last January 12, numbered about 10,000.

While some have opted to stay at evacuation centers, 65 families, with 56 families more on the way, have settled for run-down houses connected with utilities as they arrive.

The Batangas government continues to call for more help from the national and local governments and also the private sector in helping rebuild areas affected by the eruption.

It may not be much, but even for a while, it's a dwelling of their own.
